Full-Time Police Officer Application for Employment
Qualified applicants are invited to apply for the position of full-time police officer with the Borough of Edgeworth. An application and details of the selection process may be obtained in person at the Edgeworth Borough Building, 301 Beaver Road, Edgeworth PA 15143 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, or downloaded from our website, www.edgeworthborough.org. Completed applications must be submitted in person by Tuesday, April 21st, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. Photo ID required when submitting applications.
UPDATED Minimum Requirements include: Act 120 Certification, PA driver’s license, US Citizen, physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police officer and meet all other requirements set forth in the rules of the Civil Service Commission. Minimum qualifications include:
- At least two years of full-time police service OR
- At least one year of full-time police service with at least sixty (60) earned credits of higher education
- Officers with part-time experience must have accrued at least 2,000 hours in a year to count toward full-time experience.
The physical agility (MPOETC 30% Cooper Standard, excluding the 1.5 mile run) and written test will take place on Tuesday, April 28th, 2026 at 9 a.m. at the Allegheny County Police Academy. A complete copy of the Civil Service hiring policy is available for inspection during regular business hours at the Borough Building.

Responsibilities:
- Perform general laborer work and tasks as directed with minimal supervision.
- Operating and attending to equipment including a variety of hand tools, chainsaws, and landscape equipment.
- Operating large equipment including brush chippers, backhoe, large tractors and mowers, and snowplow operations
- Perform snow removal operations.
- Ability to work in subpar weather conditions including rain and snow.
- The nature of this work requires physical effort and extended periods of manual labor.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- 2+ years of experience in the field of public works, construction, or related field.
- Previous mechanic experience is preferred.
- Previous experience driving a medium-sized truck with a trailer.
- Previous experience operating large sized equipment including brush chippers, backhoe, large tractors and mowers, and snowplow operations
- 1+ year of a clean driving record.
- Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed in addition to extended shift/on-call shifts during leaf collection and snow removal operations.
License:
- Class A or B CDL driver’s license required.
- Prior to employment the candidate will be required to pass a basic drivers and skills test.
Employment Screenings:
- Prior to employment with Edgeworth Borough the candidate will be required to submit to an independent functional capacity evaluation, pre-employment drug screening and background/credit checks.
- Employees in this position are subject to random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug/alcohol screenings as well.
